Why we love the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered

In recent years, Peugeot has been working hard to conquer a larger part of the European market. Currently, the French car brand, famous for its involvement in motorsport, has a 6.9 percent market share in Europe, while its main competitor Volkswagen accounts for a staggering 11.0 percent of the market. But that didn’t stop the maker of some of the most cinematic cars from releasing an amazing new sedan model, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered, which is also priced at an all-time high at $81,000. Meanwhile, the stunning wagon version has a starting price of $82,500.

Obviously, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered (PSE) doesn’t come cheap, but market pundits argue that this automobile will compete with the more celebrated Audi S4 and BMW M340i. While PSE’s target seems lofty given that they only sold 2,000 units last year, one can only admire Peugeot’s competitiveness and drive. This is a niche vehicle in every sense of the word, perfectly suited to drivers who love the French brand but expect more performance from the Peugeot fleet. It’s also a car that will surely stand out on the road as it’s quite rare given its high price.

From the most expensive car Peugeot has ever sold to the most powerful, here are five reasons why we love the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered.

Peugeot is famous for producing beautiful looking cars and the 508 line is no exception to the rule. In fact, in January 2019, the second generation Peugeot 508 won the title of Most Beautiful Car of 2018. At the same event, the Peugeot E-Legend was awarded the title “The most beautiful concept car of the year”. Meanwhile, the PSE is a real eye-catcher with its breathtaking curves and beautiful exterior. Needless to say, driving this beauty will get you all the attention on the road while conveying your exquisite taste and style choices.

Elsewhere, the luxury price of the PSE will put most people off; so drivers who buy this car can be sure that they won’t get lost in a homogeneous sea of identical looking cars. From the outset, Peugeot knew that the PSE was a niche intended only for a limited group of diverse, upscale customers. As such, they weren’t expecting record sales for this model.

The French automaker even said the PSE was a “halo” car made to impress and generate interest in the Peugeot brand, rather than boost profits.

This furious sedan has incredible acceleration going from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and from 50 to 75 mph in 3 seconds. The 1.6 liter PureTech four-cylinder petrol engine in combination with two electric motors delivers 355 hp and a maximum torque of 520 Nm. There is also an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the electric motors draw their energy from an 11.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. That means the PSE can cruise up to 26 miles in electric mode.

The 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered is a comfortable, good-looking car that isn’t too flashy

Drivers can choose from three colors: Nera Black, Selenium Gray or Pearlescent White, and each car carries the “Kryptonite” color signature, according to Conceptcarz.

The seat upholstery, which combines Alcantara, nappa-mistral leather and an elegant-looking fabric, is impressive and features double stitching in kryptonite and tramontane. Elsewhere, the seats are also comfortable, heated and with an integrated massage function.

Meanwhile, the wheel is made of perforated grain leather with Kryptonite and Tramontane stitching. The rest of the interior also scores with a resolutely elegant look and is perfectly integrated into the design in every element.

The 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered saves fuel and reduces emissions

As gasoline becomes more expensive, customers are looking to electric and hybrid cars. Meanwhile, climate-conscious consumers who care about the environment are also demanding fuel-efficient vehicles. For these groups, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered is an excellent option.

According to Peugeot, the PSE has a combined fuel economy of 138.9mph and CO2 emissions are as low as 41g/km. Driving Electric sets the CO2 emissions a little higher at 46 g/km.

While aesthetics are subjective, most people would agree that the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineer’s exterior is quite elegant. It has an assertive, rather intimidating look and the 20-inch alloy wheels and three-claw Peugeot Sport badging are the standout elements.

Striking is the attractive and extremely aerodynamic shape, giving the impression that the PSE is faster and more fun to drive than it actually is.
