Volkswagen unveils off-road EV concept SUV
Volkswagen recently launched its ID. Xtreme Offroad Concept EV SUV based on the ID.4 GTX.
“The modular electric drive matrix (MEB) has enormous technical potential,” says Silke Bagschik, head of the MEB product line at Volkswagen. “For many of our customers, vehicles are much more than just a means of transport. With the ID. Xtreme, we’re taking VW’s electromobility to a new level of performance.”
The result of the project is a unique off-road vehicle that impresses with its robust appearance and outstanding performance. A high-performance drive on the rear axle and software adjustments in the drive control unit increase the system performance of the concept vehicle by 65 kW to 285 kW compared to the ID.4 GTX – i.e. by around 30%.
“The ID. Xtreme is made by enthusiasts at Volkswagen for ID. enthusiasts here in Locarno. We are very excited to see how fans of electric mobility will react to the vehicle. Based on the feedback from our community, we will decide how to proceed with the project” , adds Bagchik.
The exterior of the VW ID. Xtreme also shows that the vehicle is ready for any off-road adventure, according to Volkswagen. Raised rally chassis, 18 inches. Off-road wheels, a modified crash beam with an additional front bumper and 50 mm wider 3D-printed fenders give the concept vehicle an authentic off-road look. The roof rack with additional LED lights and the completely closed aluminum underbody equip the all-electric all-wheel drive vehicle for trips off the beaten track.
Acoustically, the ID. The driving noise of the Xtreme was developed together with Volkswagen Design for the concept vehicle and is emitted to the outside via a sound generator in the wheel arch. In the interior, the concept car includes numerous Alcantara applications, newly designed seats and elements in the accent color orange.
