Volkswagen ID Buzz Commercial sees the return of familiar faces
We are less than a week away from Obi Wan Kenobi. Marketing for the highly anticipated series has entered the final stretch For their latest promotion, they’ve teamed up with Volkswagen for a fun new commercial.
The spot is for the new all-electric Volkswagen ID Buzz and takes place on the set of Obi Wan Kenobi. The set is believed to be in the sands of Tatoonie. We see the well-loved, loveable duo of R2-D2 and C-3PO bickering over R2-D2’s new “friend”, the ID Buzz. The Buzz’s lights turn on to reveal the car’s “smile,” and the driver of the car is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi himself. Ewan McGregor.
Overall, this is just a really cute commercial that has a few of them war of stars‘ Fan Favorite Characters. It’s just great to see characters like R2-D2 and C-3PO again, even if it’s a non-canon look. We haven’t seen these two happy droids together since then The Rise of Skywalkeralthough last time we saw R2-D2 was in Boba Fett’s book. Does this commercial confirm that we will see her on the show? Probably not, but a war of stars Fan can dream, and these two droids always find a way to be in the thick of the action.
It’s also particularly amusing to think of Kenobi being born in the series with an electric vehicle. It sure knocks out the airspeeders attack of the Clone warriors and as we already know, Kenobi will eventually leave Tatoonie for another great adventure.
Seriously, the hype surrounding Kenobi has arguably not been seen in the Star Wars universe since The Mandalorian Season 2 finale. McGregor’s Kenobi was the best part of the prequel trilogy and fans have been begging for its return for over a decade. He had small voice cameos in both The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, but this is McGregor’s flesh-and-blood return to character. However, the series not only marks the return of this legendary Jedi Knight, it also sees the ominous return of Hayden Christensenis Darth Vader. The chemistry Christensen shared with McGregor was the tragic pivot of the prequel trilogy. It will be very exciting to see how this limited series extends this fallen relationship.
Obi Wan Kenobi Premiered with the first two episodes on Disney+ on May 27 and a total of six episodes. As we eagerly await the return of this Jedi, you can watch Kenobi Volkswagen ad below:
