Volkswagen ID.4 receives the highest possible safety rating

Volkswagen presented the ID.4 in 2021 as its first fully electric SUV and its crash safety rating is an eye-catcher. The mid-size SUV received the Top Safety Pick + Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which is the higher of the institute’s two awards.

The IIHS has six different ratings that thoroughly test that the vehicle can withstand vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian collisions while protecting the passengers inside. In order to receive a Top Safety Pick +, the car must be rated “Good” in all of these tests. In addition, the car’s front crash prevention systems must also be rated “Advanced” or “Superior”.

How did the Volkswagen ID.4 do so well? With regard to the equipment of the vehicle, many safety features are standard in all equipment. The driver assistance technology offered includes everything from blind spot detection, lane departure warning and avoidance, LED headlights and adaptive cruise control to front collision warning, parking sensors and automatic braking with pedestrian detection.

Not only does the ID.4 have all of that and more, but it’s a car that feels sleek and sturdy when you drive it. The curb weight of the car ranges from a massive 4,600 to 5,000 pounds due to the battery, which alone weighs 1,000 pounds. Because of this, acceleration isn’t as fast as some of the ID.4’s EV competitors, but at 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds it is on par with many of its gas-powered competition.

Overall, this car is more than a solid choice when it comes to safety, especially when compared to other electric vehicles. The Ford Mach-E 2021, like the Chevrolet Bolt 2021, received a top safety pick, but only after they made an adjustment to improve their headlights, both a rank lower than the ID.4. The Tesla Model Y had received a Top Safety Pick +, but the IIHS removed its safety ratings from Tesla after shutting down radar detection.

So if you are looking for an electric vehicle that takes a good place in terms of safety, the ID.4 is well advised. At around $ 40,000, the price is competitive. Volkswagen is trying to cut costs further by switching to a smaller battery, but there is still no clear answer to the new price.
