Volkswagen ID.4 official mobility partner of the SPACE PROGRAM: RARE EARTHS by Tom Sachs
Volkswagen’s award-winning ID.4 has been selected for a new mission; to transport the sculptor Tom Sachs and his studio team during the fourth exhibition in the Sachs Space Program series, a thirteen-year exploration of the limits of other worlds and human possibilities. SPACE PROGRAM: RARE EARTHS can be seen from September 19, 2021 to April 10, 2022 in the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg.
“The road is where we find inspiration, and there’s no better way to capture it than in a Volkswagen,” said Cameron Batten, Chief Communications Officer of Volkswagen Group of America. “We are proud to present the fully electric ID.4 as the official mobility partner for the American artist Tom Sachs and the latest space program of his studio team“ Rare Earths ”.
For SPACE PROGRAM: RARE EARTHS, Sachs is transforming the contemporary art hall in the Deichtorhallen – and its over 3,200 square meter gallery area – into an interactive landscape of original sculptures and bricolage works. A small fleet of Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicles will transport Sachs and his team to important exhibitions and assignments in the artist’s characteristic “Sachs Research Laboratory” branding. When not in use, the fleet is often stationed outside the Diechtorhallen for public observation.
On September 18, 2021, SPACE PROGRAM: RARE EARTHS will open with a 12-hour marathon activation documenting a mission to 4-Vesta, the brightest asteroid visible from Earth. Tickets for the exhibition are available at deichtorhallen.de.
The ID.4 is the first fully electric SUV from Volkswagen and the brand’s first worldwide electric vehicle. Based on the MEB electric vehicle architecture from Volkswagen – the modular electric drive system – it combines the strengths of a specially developed electric vehicle with performance, packaging and value, features that have characterized the brand for decades. The ID.4 competes in the world’s largest market segment – compact SUV – and is currently being produced in Germany and China; Assembly is scheduled to begin in the United States in 2022 at the Chattanooga, TN, plant.
