Upcoming Skoda, Volkswagen cars in early 2022
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has a number of new models planned for the country to hit the roads over the next few years. The next major launches by both automakers will be the Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus sedans. While the former comes as a replacement for the Rapid, the latter replaces the VW Vento. Both models compete against Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Here are the key details of the upcoming Skoda and Volkswagen sedans set to hit the market in the first half of 2022.
Skoda’s new mid-size sedan is set for a March 2022 release. Production of the model is already underway at the company’s facility in Chakan, Pune. The Slavia will be available in Active, Ambition and Style trim levels with 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines. While the smaller displacement unit delivers 115 hp against 175 Nm, the latter with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) delivers 150 hp at 250 Nm. Three transmissions are offered – 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque converter automatic and 7-speed DSG automatic.
Based on the Made-for-India MQB-A0-IN platform, the Skoda Slavia has been equipped with features such as a freestanding 10-inch infotainment system with SmartLink technology, mobile online services MySkoda Connect, ventilated front seats with leather upholstery, electric sunroof, a fully digital 8-inch instrument cluster, a new two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and more.
the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus will have its world premiere in early March, followed by its market launch in the third week of May 2022. Similar to its cousin – Skoda Slavia – the new VW sedan will be built on the highly localized MQB A0-IN platform and will be delivered with the 1.0L TSI (115 hp/175 Nm) and 1.5 l (150 hp/250 Nm) engine options. Transmissions are also borrowed from the Slavia. Most of its design elements, interior trim and components will be similar to the upcoming Skoda sedan. However, it will look different and offer some additional features.
