The first mule of the future Volkswagen ID. Autonomous Buzz, which hits the market in 2025, is ready to start its testing. It equips advanced technology from Argo AI, a specialist in autonomous driving who will debut its system at Level 5 in 2025.

The new Volkswagen ID. to hum it is already rolling as a test mule in various European cities. We saw them on board a transport platform and rolling under their own steam, although prototypes with the body and production specifications have been around for a long time.

The new electric van, a modern reinterpretation of the old Bulli, will be on the market in summer 2022, two three later it will come a special variant with level 5 autonomous driving technology. Volkswagen is already working on this, with this mule, which was developed in collaboration with a high-level specialist, those from Argo AI. As you can see, the mule is full LIDAR sensors installed at the ends of the bumper, and also on the ceiling.

And this part is one of the keys to future ID. A sum that disadvantages the entire range because it cannot have a panoramic roof, equipment that seems almost indispensable for this model. Units equipped with the fifth generation of Argo AI technology will be perfect recognizable by the dome shape of the roof, there on the front edge of the windshield high resolution camera, and many of the systems are enhanced by the roof panel.

The German brand and the provider are starting tests under real conditions in a huge adapted room on the outskirts of Munich for an as yet undefined period of time. If this test is passed, then the Autonomous prototypes will be on German roads and cities and then in other regions of Europe.

The future ID. Autonomous Buzz goes live, initially as part of MOIA’s Shared Mobility Services, the Volkswagen subsidiary dedicated to this “car sharing” service, and then the possibility of offering it to individuals, even though it is something, is evaluated removed when you consider that only Germany has a law on autonomous driving.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz will hit the market at the end of the year and be available in summer 2022Read the news
