Retrofitted auto-folding mirrors on my Volkswagen Taigun Topline MT

Affected by the chip shortage, my January 22nd registered Taigun didn’t come with auto-folding mirrors.

BHPian Atharva14 recently shared with other enthusiasts.

Retrofitting auto-folding ORVMs on my Taigun Topline MT:

Okay, we’re all familiar with the chip shortage scene, and that’s why VW didn’t provide auto-folding mirrors in the Taigun for a period of time. My car (JAN 22 regd.) was affected. Anyway, they recently started offering customers the same thing. I emailed VW India and received a prompt response from a service center. They placed the part order under my confirmation and received it within a week. Made an appointment today and it’s done.

Cost – Rs. 15000/- (I was given a flat discount of the same amount when I bought the car, so I had to pay it now.)

What does the auto folding kit include?

Well, at first I thought it was just the knob that needed changing, but to my surprise the kit consisted of:

  • 2 Mirrors (No glass and no mirror cover. This is used by the current mirror configuration).
  • rotary switch (see picture).
  • New power window motor (yes that needs to be changed too, probably this is the electrical source for folding and unfolding the mirrors).

The process went smoothly. Old mirror covers were removed with the mirror and replaced with new ones. The glass was also used from the old mirror.

The new switch was connected to the new window motor. The automatic up-down window stopped working after that because the system wasn’t coded to the new engine. After the same everything worked perfectly.

Now the Mirrors open/close automatically when locking/unlocking and through the switch. The old mirrors, switch and power window motor were returned with the car. I don’t know what to do with it now, let’s see.
