New electric cars 2022: what comes when

Lotus Type 132: Lotus? Build an electric SUV? Yes, it’s true, although little is known about the model, which will be built by Lotus in China rather than Hethel. As we understand it, two variants will be offered: an entry-level car with around 600 hp and a flagship with up to 750 hp.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Hyundai’s retro-style EV will be Hyundai’s fastest car ever, with a power boost of up to 600 hp and the company’s signature N performance features. It’s likely that the model will share a twin-engine powertrain with the Kia EV6 GT, for a 0-62mph time of under 4.0 seconds.
Kia EV6GT: Kia’s Rapid Performance crossover will be faster than the Porsche Taycan 4S at 577 hp. We’re thrilled – it’s another incredibly powerful, sporty electric car to choose from.
North Star 3: Polestar will produce the 3 in the US alongside Volvo’s successor to the XC90, whose styling is influenced by the Precept concept. Details are still few and far between, but we know the model will be more capable than the XC90. Expect sustainable materials to be used throughout.
December
BMW i7: The BMW i7 could be the ideal choice for those who want a luxurious electric sedan if you’re not a fan of the company’s newly launched design language (yes, that grille). The lowly i7 is sold alongside combustion models but plans to compete with Mercedes-Benz’s EQS. We still don’t know exactly what the car will look like, but spy shots have revealed a blanked-out grille (shape unknown, sorry), bespoke wheel designs and EV-specific trim. A 105kWh battery offers up to 400 miles of range and 600 horsepower.
