MINEEFF CONFIRMS AUDI SWITCH – Automatic action
Lachlan Mineeff has made the jump from Volkswagen to Audi for the next round of the TCR Australia Series.
Ahead of next month’s Round 5 TCR fight at Queensland Raceway, Mineeff is excited about his future prospects.
“We’re really excited to make a decent leap into TCR with a model that can win races, and that’s what we’re aiming for,” said Mineeff.
“I don’t think we’re going to win right away, but if we can make the progression of being top 10, top 5, podium and then number one, that’s the idea and we’ll keep moving forward.”
Mineeff is taking over Liam McAdam’s Audi RS3 LMS in place of his Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is set to be hired out to another driver as the perfect entry-level car for a hopeful TCR entrant.
“We still own the Golf and I’d love to use it as a customer lap again this year. Last year, with a new team and rookie riders, we were able to show that we could get really good results,” Mineeff said of his old ride.
“If we can find a customer who wants to experience TCR for the first time and has a few rounds under their belt, the Golf is perfect. We only had one retirement in 21 races, which is good for the car and the team. It’s reliable and a great way to get in some laps.”
As for his new Audi, the move is so fresh he has yet to get behind the wheel, but testing is planned ahead of the next TCR round and the enthusiastic anticipation is clearly audible.
“I haven’t driven the car yet. I just loaded it up and took it off the truck! We’ll definitely get a day of testing before Queensland Raceway, which is going to be really good. It’s the very best spec there can be for this generation, so obviously we’re really looking forward to sinking our teeth into it,” Mineeff quoted as saying.
“There are definitely a lot of similarities and similarities with golf so I think it will be great for both the team and myself to be able to switch between the two quickly.”
