Deliveries of the Volkswagen ID.4 collapsed in the second quarter of 2022

Volkswagen auto sales in the US continued to weaken after an already weak first quarter, most likely related to some serious supply issues and limited availability of new vehicles.

The company reports 78,281 vehicle deliveries in the second quarter, down 34% from a year ago. At the same time, deliveries of the Volkswagen ID.4 fell by 71% year-on-year to 1,660 or 1.2% of the total volume.

It is clearly the worst result since the launch of the ID.4 in the US and, given the high number of orders (more than 40,000 reservations at the end of 2021), a sign that Volkswagen is not sending too many cars from Europe.

Perhaps things will get better later this year, as the Volkswagen factory in Zwickau is now running three shifts again while production in Emden ramps up. However, we suspect that the real change for the ID.4 will be related to local production in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

However, despite limited availability, the cumulative number of Volkswagen ID.4s sold in the US is now over 20,000 (21,157 as of the end of June, to be precise).
