Brought home the first Volkswagen in our family; a Taigun 1.0 TSI AT

On Sunday morning I asked my dad for his opinion on the switch to the 2009 Dzire Zxi that our parents currently ride (both my parents still ride).
BHPian gngdev recently shared with other enthusiasts.
We were looking for a replacement for our 2013 Ford Figo TDCI that we sold in February. We didn’t need a car until around October, but we started our search early now due to the long wait. As our daily running is quite high (40km for me, 80km for my wife at her current post) we had chosen the Nexon EV. Although we almost settled on Nexon EV, we checked out the following cars in the same price range that same day:
MG Astor Turbo AT/Astor NA CVT:
The Astor seemed luxurious from the inside out. And the Turbo AT drove well too. But we found the support under the thighs to be a little lacking. Also, it was a bit too out of budget considering the FE and additional running costs are above the price of the car.
We also tested the 1.5 NA CVT. It had the rubber band effect that added to the poor support under the thighs against it.
Honda City AT:
We didn’t test drive the vehicle, but neither I nor my wife liked the city interiors. While there’s a lot more room inside around town, we loved the Nexon’s interiors a lot more.
Now we still had some time until the Nexon EV test drive vehicle arrived (it was on its way for a test drive for another client and we thought we’d rather do the test drive on the same day than getting time for a test drive together later would be 1 – take 2 weeks). It was late (around 6:15pm) and we thought of going to see the Taigun as well. We immediately called EVM VW Cheranellur and the sales rep said they are still open and we could go for a test drive.
We went to the EVM showroom even though it was raining heavily. They (Mr. Shibu and Mr. Sanoop) were very accommodating and offered to test drive the car. We were only interested in 1.0 AT because of DSG reliability concerns. Loved the car, the space and overall comfort and was fun to drive.
Now we were very impressed with the attitude of the sales team and they mentioned that they have a very good offer from VW for the month of April (50k off ex-showroom price) and that it is the first time VW has offered such a deal Offer makes good offer. We weren’t looking for an ICE vehicle and just asked if they could arrange a test drive at my house (20km away) the following Sunday so my parents can check it out too. They promptly agreed.
We had asked the same question to the MG salespeople too, but they said they don’t work on Sundays, so they arranged one for the following Saturday.
On Sunday morning I asked my dad for his opinion on the switch to the 2009 Dzire Zxi that our parents currently ride (both my parents still ride). He said he’ll think about it. Anyway, Mr Sanoop came by car for the test drive (we really appreciate that considering his wife was hospitalized to give birth. He mentioned this when he came or we wouldn’t have asked him to come). My parents liked the car and we asked about the exchange rate for our 2009 Dzire and he offered a decent price.
We discussed this within the family and given the 50,000 discount and upcoming price increase in May, we settled on the Highline 1.0 AT Curcuma Yellow. 10,000 advance paid the same day and final payment completed within 2 days. We got the car delivered the following Saturday
The MG showroom arranged for the test drive the same day we received the Taigun (we had told them it was unlikely we would book the car in advance, but they came for the test drive anyway). I casually informed the seller that he could have made a sale if he had arranged a test drive the previous Sunday.
So I would say just because of the attitude of the sales people at EVM VW we bought a new car out of the blue. It wasn’t planned to replace our parents’ car and it just happened very spontaneously. We’ve still booked the Nexon EV as our Figo replacement and the booking experience is a whole different story.
This is the price breakdown of what we paid:
- Ex showroom: 1439900
- TKS: 14399
- Insurance: 27500 (including 50% NCB of Dzire)
- Road tax: 188202
- ZP & Fastag: 700
- Discount: -50000
- Company discount: -5000
- Total: 16.26.201
We didn’t opt for the accessory pack, which costs around Rs. 10,500. Decided to order a mat online and have the mudflaps fitted later as they didn’t stock the mat and mudflaps separately. We also picked up the 5th & 6th year extended warranty for 29,499 and the 3rd & 4th year service pack for 16,499 (the 1st & 2nd year service pack was already included in the April deal).
This is the first VW in our family. I hope that we will have a trouble-free experience with it. Also, the experience with the sales team was such that we didn’t even look for better deals from other retailers.
Curious to hear from other members if a sales team’s behavior influenced a car purchase when there was never a plan for one.
