Ahead of election dates, Tamil Nadu CM announces gold loan waiver for farmers and the poor

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami announced a waiver of gold lending ahead of the declaration of election dates in Tamil Nadu 2021. The announcement was made about six sovereigns donated by cooperative banks to farmers and the poor. Notably, the model code of conduct will come into force in Tamil Nadu after the election dates in Tamil Nadu were announced by the electoral commission at 4.30 p.m. today.
“Gold loans against up to six sovereigns granted by cooperative banks to farmers and the poor will be canceled,” NDTV cited the state government. Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami made the announcement after the Election Commission said it would announce election dates for voting-related states including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal.
It should be noted that the mandate of the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu will end on May 24, 2021. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will come into force in Tamil Nadu Nadu following the announcement of the dates.
Tamil Nadu’s 2021 election will take place to elect a total of 234 members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).
The incumbent Edappadi K. Palaniswami will be the chief ministerial candidate of AIADMK. The party has formed an 11-member steering committee for the upcoming 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. The team includes ministers Dindigul C Sreenivasan, P Thangamani, SP Velumani, among others.
Tamil Nadu’s 2021 election will also see active entry by Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and Tamil actor Kamal Haasan into politics.
