A five-year-old girl is killed in a crash in the housing development of Stoke-on-Trent – as police officers arrest a 63-year-old man on suspicion of causing the death by dangerous driving

Police are wanting to hear witnesses after a five-year-old girl died after being hit by a car.
Staffordshire Police said officers were called to Waterside Drive, Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent at 5.52pm on Friday to receive reports of an accident involving a vehicle and a child.
The girl was found in cardiac arrest after being hit by a gray Volkswagen Touran.
She was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

A 63-year-old Stoke-on-Trent-area man arrested on suspicion of causing the death by dangerous driving has been released on conditional police bail while the investigation continues.
Police said officers would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who may have relevant dashcam footage of the area at the time.

Police would like to remind the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the incident on social media while the investigation is ongoing.
The girl’s relatives have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officials.
